St. Bartholomew Catholic Church offers its parishioners a rich continuum of faith formation opportunities, including sacramental preparation for children, youth, and adults. Under the spiritual guidance of the Pastor, Rev. Mark Strader, this parish features an adult faith formation program offering guest speakers, retreats, field trips, and vibrant liturgies. Known fondly as “St. Barts,” this parish has grown to serve more than 1,300 families during its 82 year history.
Under the patronage of the Apostle St. Bartholomew, this parish was dedicated on March 12, 1939 by Rev. John J. Cantwell, D.D., Archbishop of Los Angeles. St. Bartholomew has been led by eight pastors—three of whom participated with Archbishop José H. Gómez and Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Solis in the con-celebration of its Diamond Jubilee Mass in 2012.
St. Bartholomew was designed by Thomas Franklin Power, a prominent and prolific Los Angeles-area architect. Power’s design for the parish featured two structures on a triangular parcel—the church on the eastern end and a parish hall on the western end. The handsome pair of buildings were an updated Tudor-style. Over the years, the church has been meticulously preserved, remodeled, and updated with the addition of a side chapel, children’s cry room, and complementary furnishings and art work.
