“. . . by baptism, all are plunged into the paschal mystery of Christ: they die with him, are buried with him, and rise with him,” (Constitution on Sacred Liturgy, 6).
Preparation of parents and godparents for infant baptism fosters an understanding of the sacramental theology of baptism—its signs, effects, and call to mission. All parents and godparents are required to participate in a baptismal preparation class.
If you would like to help prepare parents and godparents for baptism, contact the Director of Faith Formation, Kellie De Leo.
“Let us read the Gospel, a small section each day. This way we will learn what is most essential in our lives: love and mercy,” Pope Francis.
“This is the job of the catechist: constantly to go forth to others out of love, to bear witness to Jesus and to talk about Jesus, to proclaim Jesus,” Pope Francis.
A catechist is someone who responds to the call to share their own faith; to echo the Word in one’s own life by showing others the Way of Christ; and to hand-on the tradition and teachings of the Catholic Church. Opportunities for volunteer catechists include Early Childhood Religious Education (ages 3 to 5 years), Elementary Religious Education (1st through 5th Grades), Middle School (6th through 8th Grades), Confirmation (High School-aged teens), and Christian Initiation (ages 21 and older). Volunteer catechists who minister to children (ages 3 to 18) are required to participate in LiveScan Fingerprinting and a special training program, VIRTUS® Child Abuse Prevention, that are offered through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Safeguard the Children program.
