Parish Ministry Fair – Sept. 24
Please join us for St. Bartholomew’s annual Ministry Fair on Sunday, Sept. 24, afte all the Masses in the Parish Hall. This year’s theme is “Responding to God’s Generosity through Service” – meaning that by virtue of our baptism we are all called to work in the Lord’s vineyard. So, how can you help? Think about your particular interests, talents, and gifts and how they might be applied to our various ministry types, which include catechetical, liturgical, pastoral, spiritual, and outreach ministries. We invite you to meet our ministry leaders and team members and see what’s growing in our vineyard. There is a place for everyone!

And the Journey Continues...with the Catholicism Series – Sept. 26
Fr. Mark’s spiritual pilgrimage continues Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall as he presents Episode Four of the Catholicism Series: “Mary, the Mother of God.” In this episode, Bishop Barron masterfully correlates the Catholic faith’s testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother.
Bishop Barron will journey to the humble remains of Mary’s house in Nazareth, to the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus and to the great Marian shrines of Lourdes and Guadalupe. This episode will also feature commentary on some of the most remarkable imagery of the Mother of God created by the world’s greatest artists.
During October, Continuing the Journey will be on break while Fr. Mark and Bishop Marc lead a pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Paul through the Greek Islands. The Catholicism Series will begin again on Nov. 7.
Wednesday Night Study – Sept. 27
The next Wednesday Night Bible Study will be on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 6:30-8:00 pm in the Parish Hall. All are welcome! We will begin studying "The Holy Spirit in the Bible." 50+ Scripture Study to Meet Oct. 4
The 50+ Scripture Study has started a new series on the Gospel of John. “Jesus, the Word Made of Flesh, Part One,” by Stephen Binz, covers chapters 1 through 10 of John’s Gospel, which presents Jesus as the personal revelation of the unseen God and develops selected words and deeds of Jesus into seven great dramas to demonstrate the power and love of God working in him.
This study will help participants to understand the scope of this gospel as well as its personal implications for the lives of disciples today. Books may be ordered online from Threshold Bible Study or Amazon. The Product Code is 958283 and the study guide costs $12.95. The 50+ Scripture Study meets every other Wednesday at 8:30 am in the Seton Room. New members are welcome! For more details or to join the group, contact Ted Flood at (562) 706-6048.

St. Bartholomew's Annual Blessing of the Animals & Outdoor Prayer Service will be on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 5:00 pm. This is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of animals & ecology. Marathon Mass Schedule – Oct. 14 & 15
Once again, the race-course for the Long Beach Marathon will pass by St. Bartholomew. We want to wish the participants a good race and offer our parishioners an alternative Mass time that facilitates easily accessible Mass-time parking and an opportunity to join in the fun.
Saturday Mass Times: 4:00 pm (Livestreamed) and 5:00 pm Vigil Mass
Sunday Mass Time: 8:00 am ONLY
Mass will not be held at the regular times of 9:30 am & 11:00 am.
Exposition & Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Join us every Friday in the Church from 6:30-7:30 am. During this Holy Hour, we pray in silence as we sit before the Lord. Each moment we spend adoring Christ, present in the Eucharist, deepens our union with him. We can read Scripture or a favorite prayer book, or speak to Jesus heart-to-heart. A recitation of the Rosary breaks the silence when the Holy Hour concludes.
Upscale Resale Event (Donations Needed) – Nov. 18 & 19
We’re having hot weather and it’s time to turn on the AC and get busy cleaning out closets! Please start setting aside your donations for November’s Upscale Resale event (set for Nov. 18-19). Acceptable items include artwork, jewelry, toys, handbags, vases, knick-knacks, lamps, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations, etc. Sorry, but we are unable to accept clothing and books. More details available soon on where and when to turn in donations.
2023 Together in Mission Campaign
Archbishop Gomez recently invited all Catholics to make their annual commitment to the 30th Anniversary of Together in Mission Annual Appeal. This year’s theme of “Shine His Light” and St. Bartholomew has been asked to raise $64,814.
We look forward to the continued generosity of our parishioners, who enabled us to exceed last year’s parish goal. Last year, St. Bartholomew exceeded its campaign goal for Together in Mission, and the overage was returned to the parish.
If you and your family have not had the opportunity to make your pledge, I ask that you complete a remit envelope card found in the pews, or make your pledge online by visiting www.timgive.org. Your gifts to Together in Mission ensure that every Catholic living in the Archdiocese has a parish to celebrate their faith and access to Catholic school education. You are living your faith through your actions when you support Together in Mission.
Please prayerfully consider your pledge with the information that was mailed to your home, a pledge envelope found within the pews, or online at www.ourmissionla.org/give. If you write a check, please make it payable to Together in Mission. Thank you for your generosity!

Requesting Anointing of the Sick
If Someone in Your Family Becomes Seriously Ill
Please contact us at (562) 438-3826 as early on as possible for the Anointing of the Sick. This sacrament is not intended to be last rites; rather, we should think of it as Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in this serious time of need.
Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or medical care facility and received more than once. Our Parish will aim to offer the sacrament at a Sunday Mass on a quarterly basis. If someone should die without anointing, remember that it is like Baptism in that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares. God Bless.
