Welcome to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and our Baptismal Program. We are pleased you are joing us and hope that you enjoy the journey to your child's baptism as much as the day itself.
Our goal is to make you feel comfortable with what happens at a Baptism, learn what the Church teahes about Baptism and what it means to beocme part of our Church community. Many of you come here because this is where your faith roots are, even if you have moved away. There is something reassuring to baptize your child in the same parish you received your sacraments. It reminds us that God is necessary in our lives, and that faith is to be passed on from one to another.
St. Bartholomew may be a familiar place to you. When you walk through the doors into the Church your eyes are drawn to the treselle ceilings, carved pews, the simple, humble sanctuary, and rays of sunlight through the stained glass windows. You are in your church home; it's the same as always, yet not, because now you carry into the church a new life to raise in the faith.
Baptism's are held once a month on various Saturday's at 11:00 am. Baptisms are held in small group setting of six families.
We invited the families brining their children to be baptized to participate in the Rite of Welcome for Infant Baptisms held typically the week before their scheduled baptism at the 9:30 am Mass.
Children over the age of seven will be baptized through the Faith Formation Program - Rite of Christian Initation of Adults adapted for Children.
We'd like our parents to have the opportunity to prepare for their child's Baptism by using our online program and one in-person session.
Quick Top Level Overiew of the Process:
We typically do baptism’s the once a month on a Saturday at 11 am.
Parents and Godparents need to watch video’s online and take a baptism class. We hold ours the first Monday of the Month at 7 pm in the Church. If godparents are out of the area they can take the class at their parish and send me the certificate.
The Sunday before baptisms we have our baptism families come to the 9:30 am Mass for the Rite of Welcome for Infant Baptisms.

“Baptism is the sacrament in which our faith is founded upon and which engages us as living members in Christ and in His Church,” Pope Francis.
Through the waters of Baptism we are initiated into the Church, the Body of Christ. Baptism is a source of identity and Christian dignity. By the grace of this sacrament we are changed forever—we become a ‘new creation,’ adopted children of God, temples of the Holy Spirit, and are given a share in the divine life of Jesus Christ. In Baptism, we are united with Christ and incorporated into his redemptive death on the Cross—freeing us from Original Sin and all personal sin—and causing us to rise with Christ to a life without end. Baptism offers the gift of eternal life.
For children, sacramental preparation for First Eucharist occurs within the parish's curriculum for Faith Formation. For more information, contact the Director of Faith Formation,

“[Christ] is present in the sacrifice of the Mass . . . especially under the Eucharistic elements,” (Constitution on Sacred Liturgy, 7).
In Eucharist, the faithful are brought into deep communion with Christ and one another. Eucharist is from the Greek word meaning “thanksgiving,” and is the preeminent sign of unity in the Church. The Eucharist, celebrated as a community, teaches us about human dignity, calls us to right relationship with God, ourselves, and others. It is through the Eucharist that we fully live the paschal mystery of Christ, we share in his life, death, and resurrection. As the Body of Christ, it sends us on mission to help transform our communities, neighborhoods, and world. The Eucharist is our destiny: it is Eucharist or Holy Communion that sustains our ongoing conversion and lifelong faith journey.

“The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord,” Isaiah 11:2.
The Sacrament of Confirmation completes our Christian Initiation, forms our Catholic identity as disciples, and prepares us for service to God and others. Confirmation enriches the baptized with the strength of the Holy Spirit so that they can better witness to Christ through word and example.
For children, sacramental preparation for First Penance occurs within the parish's curriculum for Faith Formation. For information, contact the Director of Faith Formation, Kellie De Leo (562) 438-3826, Ext. 250 or email: kdeleo@la-archdiocese.org
Individual reconciliation is offered every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm in the Courtyard.
As of 1/15/22, Confessions will take place in the Courtyard due to the rise in Covid cases in the area until further notice. Please be brief in confessing and wear a mask. Confessions will not be held if it is raining. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
“The Lord never tires of forgiving. It is we who tire of asking for forgiveness,” Pope Francis.
Through this sacrament of healing we are reconciled with God, with the Church, and with others. Also known as Confession, it celebrates forgiveness and the repairing of broken relationships. Through the Sacrament of Penance, God offers mercy and forgiveness. In response to this gift, we are called to become vehicles of Christ’s love, making amends and restoring justice and the bonds that have been broken.
Please contact us at (562) 438-3826 as early on as possible for the Anointing of the Sick. This sacrament is not intended to be last rites; rather, we should think of it as Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in this serious time of need.
Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or medical care facility and received more than once. Our Parish will aim to offer the sacrament at a Sunday Mass on a quarterly basis.
If someone should die without anointing, remember that it is like Baptism in that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares. God Bless.
“Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord . . . if he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven,” James 5:14-15.
When sickness and poor health challenge us physically, mentally, and spiritually, Anointing of the Sick is the balm that soothes and heals bodies, minds, and spirits. The ailing receive the Holy Spirit’s gifts of strength, faith, peace, and courage, and his or her suffering is united with the suffering of Christ for the building up of the Church. It is appropriate to receive this sacrament prior to a serious operation or medical procedure.
Men interested in becoming a priest or deacon should contact the Pastor, Fr. Mark A. Strader, at (562) 438-3826.
“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek,” Hebrews 7:17.
Through Holy Orders, the priest bears the presence of Christ in order to preside over the sacraments and to build up the Church. Each sacrament expresses an aspect of Christ’s unfathomable presence and desire for us. In gathering the community, modeling Christ’s love for the poor, presiding at Eucharist, and evangelizing social realities, ordained ministers help Christians imitate Christ’s mission of love and justice. Deacons also receive a special grace through ordination and are called to assist the ministry of bishops and priests.
Wedding celebrations are scheduled a minimum of six months in advance. For information, contact the Parish Office at (562) 438-3826
“Marriage is an act of faith in God’s plan and an act of selfless love,” Pope Francis.
Marriage is a covenant by which a man and woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole life. The term “covenant” helps us to understand the biblical and personal aspects of a love relationship that reaches beyond the legal or civil aspects of the “marriage contract.” By their marriage, the couple witnesses Christ’s spousal love for the Church. We look to the married couple as a sacrament—a sign to the world of God’s love. By giving of themselves and serving one another, their family, and community, married couples help one another live out Christ’s call to discipleship, love, and service. Marriage provides a foundation for a family committed to community, solidarity, and Jesus’ mission in the world.
